ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a compassionate, clinically competent, and professionally committed Registered Nurse to join our Medical-Surgical Ward. The successful candidate will deliver direct patient care, maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control, work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, and uphold Zetech University Hospital's core values of quality, safety, and dignity in all patient interactions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care plans for medical-surgical patients
• Accurately monitor and interpret vital signs — blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, SpO2 — and escalate abnormal findings promptly
• Administer medications safely using the 5 Rights (Right Patient, Right Drug, Right Dose, Right Route, Right Time) and document all administrations
• Maintain strict Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards including hand hygiene, PPE use, and aseptic technique for all invasive procedures
• Respond to clinical emergencies: initiate CPR, recognise and respond to shock, hypoxia, and respiratory distress
• Manage patients with common conditions including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, asthma, and post-operative care
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and families — explain procedures, obtain informed consent, and provide health education
• Handle difficult or anxious patients with de-escalation techniques and maintain professional composure
• Conduct structured clinical handovers using the ISOBAR framework
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient documentation in line with NCK and hospital standards
• Advocate for patient rights including confidentiality, dignity, and informed consent
• Collaborate with physicians, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and other MDT members
• Manage conflicts with colleagues professionally and escalate unresolved issues through appropriate channels
• Adhere to the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) Code of Professional Conduct and scope of practice at all times
REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognised institution
• Valid, current Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) licence — MANDATORY
• 2+ years post-registration clinical experience in a hospital setting
• Demonstrated competence in vital signs monitoring and interpretation
• Knowledge of IPC standards and infection control protocols
• Safe drug administration practices (5 or 6 Rights)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification — current
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced ward environment
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and compassion
NICE TO HAVE
• Critical care or ICU experience
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Postgraduate nursing qualification or specialist certification
